At the Ansell booth (Hall 6 Booth E10), visitors will discover the Gammex® PF (powder free) glove range in both latex and synthetic materials. The flagship of Ansell's surgical glove offering has been embraced by healthcare workers the world over for its combination of superior protection, comfort and great sensitivity. Gammex® PF is considered to be one of the safest surgical gloves on the market, with 'undetectable' allergen levels, according to FITkit® tests.
The range includes Gammex ®PF HydraSoft®, which hydrates the skin during use; the Gammex® PF Underglove designed specifically for double donning; the Gammex® PF Micro-ThinTM and the Gammex® PF SensitiveTM, dedicated to microsurgery and cosmetic surgery.
Marked switch to powder-free gloves
"We are already seeing a marked switch from powdered to powder-free gloves in Middle East healthcare practices" explains Werner Heintz, Ansell's Senior Vice President and Regional Director EMEA. "Before choosing synthetic materials, the first step in allergy prevention remains the reduction of allergens borne by powder, and in the latex formulation itself. According to us, quality powder-free latex gloves are an irreversible trend for the region."
Because Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) remains the recommended choice for barrier protection, Ansell Healthcare has been an early champion of powder-free latex gloves. On the prevention side, the company has optimised its NRL gloves to reduce water-soluble chemical residues, proteins and allergens. Another step towards prevention, the HydraSoft® hydrating technology, was integrated into the inner coating of Gammex® PF surgical gloves, helping to protect the skin's natural barrier when this is attacked by scrubbing and antiseptics. Samples, available from sizes 5.5 (extra small) to 9.5 (extra large), will be available at the booth.
As an alternative to NRL, Ansell invites visitors to test samples of the improved Gammex® PF DermaPrene® and the new Gammex® PF IsoDerm®. First launched in 2004, the neoprene Gammex® PF DermaPrene® surgical gloves are powder free, latex free, and accelerator free, and have become surgeons' first choice in synthetic gloves throughout Europe. The Gammex® PF DermaPrene® glove provides an ideal solution to avoiding Type I and minimising Type IV allergies for healthcare professionals and patients.
Another advanced non-latex glove on show is the newly launched Gammex® PF IsoDerm®. Protein free, Gammex® PF IsoDerm® is made from polyisoprene. It was developed for operating room personnel, of which 8 to 10 % is diagnosed with latex allergy. In extensive end-user trials in European hospitals, surgeons and nurses expressed almost unanimous appreciation of the gloves' comfort, close fit and soft 'touch and feel'. The Gammex® PF IsoDerm® is intended for OR workers with a type I latex allergy and/or who treat patients with such an allergy. This synthetic glove is also highly recommended for emergency and rescue services, and especially for childcare where precautionary measures should be taken.
