Powder-free surgical gloves are now the standard in one of the biggest emergency centres in Paris
Medical sector ---
Prof. Patrice Valleur, Head Surgeon of the General and Digestive Tract Surgery Department at Lariboisière Hospital: "Of all those we have tried, Ansell surgical gloves are by far the best. They offer an excellent combination of quality, flexibility, resistance and safety."
Customer company profile
Lariboisière Hospital, a historical monument that has just been fully modernised, is one of the 39 hospitals and hospital groups of the Hospital Section of the Paris Public Assistance Service. Its emergency department handles emergencies of all kinds, caring daily for an average of 170 patients. Its other departments - surgery, ear-nose-and-throat, ophthalmology and orthopaedics - offer hospitalisation and consultations. With 935 beds, they offer the full range of patient care - medical, exploratory and surgical - for neurology, cardiology, gastro-enterology, gynaecology-obstetrics and the locomotor system.
An effective solution in the operating room to prevent post-operative adhesion and occlusion.
At Lariboisière Hospital, which is on its way to becoming one of the biggest adult emergency centres in the northern section of Paris, the choice is clear. Initially adopted by the digestive surgery department and today used in all surgical departments - orthopaedics, neurology and cardiovascular - Ansell powder-free gloves stand out over all the others because of their safety. For the needs of its 1,800 operations a year, Lariboisière Hospital today has the perfect surgical glove, thanks to the quality of Ansell products.
Benefits for the customer
Safer for patients and surgeons
Time-saving and ergonomic.
In addition to the problem of its structures being split up, the Hospital Section of the Paris Public Assistance Service is confronted with a shortage of qualified paramedical staff, and especially a severe shortage of nurses. On top of the costs resulting from having to shut down beds due to a lack of staff, it is also faced with budget restrictions. Lariboisière Hospital is dealing effectively with its difficulties by constantly seeking medical solutions that offer the highest level of safety for its money.
The challenge: limiting the risks of adhesion
"The risk of post-operative adhesion and occlusion, combined with the penetration of microscopic foreign bodies during surgery, is a critical problem in visceral surgery", explains Professor Patrice Valleur, Surgeon and Department Head. "As soon as we learned about the development of powder-free gloves a few years ago, we organised a call for tenders. Over a three-month period, our entire team tested all the powder-free gloves on the market, the idea being to combine the highest quality product, optimal management and savings."
The solution: Ansell's Gammex® PF
In addition to systematic bacteriological monitoring, the operating room protocol at Lariboisière includes double donning to protect patients and surgeons alike. Similarly, gloves have to be changed every hour and a half to two hours to prevent problems of porosity. "Ansell's Gammex® PF range convinced the whole team: its perfect water-tightness, its non-iatrogenic and its high tactile sensitivity were just a few of the deciding factors", explains Prof. Valleur. Ansell has also continuously improved its products since introducing its first powder-free gloves. The latest generation Gammex® PF are more comfortable to wear and are also easier to don. "It's as if they were powdered!" comments Prof. Valleur. "Ansell's powder-free gloves are the only ones that are easy and safe to use. Their ease of donning and strength are exceptional for powder-free gloves. I don't know of any others with comparable qualities!"
The benefits: safety, savings and ergonomics
Lariboisière Hospital enjoys the following advantages from Ansell gloves:
- Patients have greater protection against risks associated with medical treatment.
- Better protected against the risks of hepatitis C transmission, surgeons safeguard their capacity to continue practicing.
- Due to their limited porosity, the use of Ansell surgical gloves is prolonged and consumption reduced.
- The gloves need no washing before operations to eliminate powder or starch, which saves time and physiological saline solution and is more ergonomic.
